Changes to the Development Organization

As described above, it was not possible for a central group to provide the resources and expertise required for the redesign of at least 5000 separate applications. The establishment of the network of what were to be known as usability coordinators based directly in the development departments, who were to introduce project-related information and expertise into the development groups without delay, was therefore an important objective on an organizational level. On completion of the project, this network of usability coordinators were to ensure that the process continued to survive and that the project’s objectives were integrated in the general development objectives on a permanent basis. Furthermore, the usability expertise distributed among the development groups ensured that redesign projects received expert support in terms of methodology throughout the company and that the required project measures were adopted.
