Measures Required to Achieve ObjectivesOrganizational Innovation and the Integration of Top ManagementThe managing board initiated EnjoySAP, and the backing it gave the project was the most important single factor in its success. Two decisions were crucial in setting the direction of the project: Firstly, every development department was given the planning objective of appointing a full-time usability coordinator. This gave the software engineers easy access to a colleague who could keep them informed about matters such as the methods to be applied, new user interface techniques, guidelines and the next steps in the project. The EnjoySAP project team provided training to prepare people to fulfill this role. Secondly, the managing board decided to invest all the available development resources for the standard R/3 in 1998/99 in focusing on the redesign of existing application scenarios from the user’s point of view rather than in developing the functional scope. The idea was to analyze again the requirements relating to the application scenarios, to examine them taking into account the user’s viewpoint and to improve the usability of existing applications in a (re)design process.
