For the fourth time, the SAP User Experience Team sponsored usability activities at SAP TechEd Europe. The conference took place in Vienna, Austria, from October 27 to 29, 2009.
Attendees had the chance to test new and existing SAP solutions and tools and provide on-the-spot feedback to SAP developers and usability experts. They could choose from 17 test topics in the areas of administration and configuration, applications and runtimes, and modeling and development.

Dan Rosenberg, SVP, SAP UX, also held the keynote address (closing plenary session) at the 20th anniversary celebration of the FQS-Forschungstagung 2009 (German Quality Engineering conference) on October 21st, 2009 in Frankfurt/M, Germany: "The Human Factor as an integral component of quality measurement."

From September 29 to October 1st, 2009, the 10th DSAG annual congress (10. DSAG-Jahreskongress) will be held in Bremen, Germany. The DSAG is the German-speaking SAP user group.

Once again, SAP User Experience will have a SAP-DSAG Usability Test Center there.

A short paper by Gerd Waloszek and Ulrich Kreichgauer, SAP UX – Infrastructure, outlining the PeP method and titled "User-Centered Evaluation of the Responsiveness of Applications," has been accepted for the INTERACT 2009 conference and was presented on the second conference day. The conference was held on August 26-28, 2009, in Uppsala, Sweden.

about Human Performance at the Computer

Dan Rosenberg, Senior Vice President, SAP User Experience, held the keynote address (opening plenary session) at the HCI International 2009 conference on July 21st, 2009. It is titled "The Industrialization of Sustainability: Future roles, responsibilities and opportunities for the HCI profession."

Our second highlight topic is devoted to human performance at the computer and includes topics such as responsiveness, perceived performance, and busy feedback. The articles have been published in different areas of the SAP Design Guild over the course of about one year and are now presented within a coherent framework for easier access.

In honor of Ben Shneiderman's 60th birthday, a special issue of the International Journal of Human-Computer Interaction (volume 23, issue 3, 2007) has been published. In the introduction Reflections on Human-Computer Interaction Catherine Plaisant and Chris North state: For more than 30 years, Ben Shneiderman has promoted HCI through his prolific writing and lecturing and his direction of the Human–Computer Interaction Lab (HCIL; 1983–2000) at the University of Maryland, where he is Professor of Computer Science. The issue is comprised of five articles, which cover topics, such as visualization, information seeking, as well as societal issues and HCI.

The 19th of September, 2007 started a new era for SAP customers, users of
SAP software, and the company itself. At a global press event in New York,
USA, SAP's CEO Henning Kagermann unveiled the company's entirely new business
software solution SAP Business ByDesign™ for the midsize market.
It complements the existing small and midsize enterprise product portfolio,
employs a new business model, also also breaks new grounds with respect to
user experience.

This year's Mensch & Computer conference featured the motto "Mensch & Computer:
Interaktion im Plural" (man and computer: interaction in plural).

The CHI 2007 conference on human factors in computing systems, held in San
Jose, California, USA, is over. The SAP booth had been busy from the beginning
and continued so: On Tuesday, there was an author meets designer signature
event with Karen Holtzblatt and Jörg Beringer. On Thursday, there was
a Q&A session with Dan Rosenberg, Senior Vice President, SAP User Experience,
during the morning break.

Activities at the 2007 ASUG Annual Conference
The aim of the two day conference “Innovationsforum Interaktionsdesign“,
held in Potsdam, Germany, on March 30-31, 2007, was to focus on all aspects
of interface and interaction design: mobile telephone and media interfaces,
problem solutions und product visions, web pages and virtual worlds, art und
commerce, business and science. Several SAP UI professionals attended the conference.

It was the first time that SAP has been actively involved in this event, which was organized in cooperation with partners, such as design agency kuehlhaus AG, Weinheim, and University of Applied Sciences, Mannheim. The event included several presentations from practitioners, a panel discussion, and an exhibition.

the country in 2006 to "show the world how Germans have been making life
more comfortable, secure and enjoyable for centuries." The Fachhochschule
Potsdam - Studiengang Interface Design - IDL Interaction Design Lab, Potsdam will
be the "landmark of the day" at the 4th of October in recognition
of its "unique degree program for young designers to learn how they can

The
goal of World
Usability Day is to promote the fields of usability engineering and user-centered
design. The UPA World Usability Day Committee aims to do this by encouraging,
organizing, and sponsoring activities at the local level around the globe,
all occurring on November 3, 2005. The UPA, UPA chapters, and allied organizations
all held events, revolving around a common theme – "Making it easy – World
Usability Day", with a focus this year on egovernment, ecommerce and other
commercial applications.
The World Usability Day coincided with the opening day of DUX
2005, which featured a collection of half- and full-day tutorials, and
tours of San Francisco's premier design studios. The opening plenary reception
honored World Usability Day.
