SAP Design Guild Newsletter – November/December 2009 (No. 66, 12/17/2009)

We would like to inform you of the following additions to the Website:

  • We published two new book reviews in our Books & People section:
    • Design Meets Disability (by Graham Pullin)
    • Introduction to Information Visualization (by Riccardo Mazza)
  • There is a new report about the INTERACT 2009 conference in the Stories section:
    • INTERACT 2009 – Research & Practice?
  • There were a also number of updates in the Goodies area (glossaries, link lists, visualization), and the event pages have been prepared for 2010
  • Last, but not least, we updated the Books &People section with two new profiles and a number of other changes.

 

SAP Design Guild Newsletter – October 2009 (No. 65, 10/28/2009)

We would like to inform you of the following additions to the Website:

  • We published a new design tidbits finishing the "Bridging the Gap" series:
    • Bridging the Gap – Part III: Structural Approaches
  • In addition, we published three new overview articles in the Resources section:
    (these articles complement SAP's new "Best-Built Applications" guidelines; see SCN for details)
    • Accessibility
    • User-Centered Design
    • User Interface Guidelines – An Introduction
  • There is also a new story about a performance-related project at SAP UX:
    • The PeP Project: Evaluating the Responsiveness of SAP Applications from a User-Centered Perspective
      This article was also added to the Highlight topic Human Performance at the Computer and the SAP UX edition.
  • Last, but not least, there were a number of updates in the Info Area – in particular, our list of acronyms received a major update – and there is a new book presentation

SAP UX Usability Activities

  • SAP User Experience sponsored Usability Testcenters at the 10th DSAG annual congress (10. DSAG-Jahreskongress) and the BusinessObjects User Conference 2009. These days, it sponsors another Usability Testcenter at TechEd Europe.

Outlook

We still have an Interact 2009 conference report in the pipeline, as well as the long overdue book review, which should be ready within three weeks: Design Meets Disability (the link leads to a preliminary page). The review pipeline has also been extended through the book Introduction to Information Visualization (the link leads to a preliminary page).

 

SAP Design Guild Newsletter – September 2009 (No. 64, 09/09/2009)

We would like to inform you of the following additions to the Website:

  • We published two new design tidbits:
    • Bridging the Gap – Part I: Introduction
    • Bridging the Gap – Part II: Mapping Approaches
      A third article belonging to this series will follow in October
  • In addition, we published a new editorial:
    • Is There Such a Thing as Perceived Quality?
  • The Books & People section offers a new book presentation and a couple of updates
  • There are also a few updates in the Goodies section (new links)

SAP UX Conference Activities

  • Just to remind you: Dan Rosenberg, SVP, SAP UX, will hold the closing plenary session keynote at the 20th anniversary celebration of the FQS-Forschungstagung 2009 (German Quality Engineering conference) on October 21st, 2009 in Frankfurt/M, Germany: "The Human Factor as an integral component of quality measurement."

SAP UX Usability Activities

  • SAP User Experience will again be sponsoring the Usability Testcenter at the 10th DSAG annual congress (10. DSAG-Jahreskongress). The event will be held from September 29th to October 1st, 2009, in Bremen, Germany.

Outlook

We have an Interact 2009 conference report in the pipeline as well as a couple of articles for the Resources section.

SAP Design Guild Newsletter – August 2009 (No. 63, 08/11/2009)

There is no summer slump on the SAP Design Guild Website, and we would like to inform you of the following additions to the Website:

  • We published three new design tidbits:
    • Examples of Poor Responsiveness
    • Refreshing Three HCI Laws: Fitts' Law, Hick's Law, and the Power Law of Practice
    • Human-Computer Dialog: How Good Does "Good Enough" Need to Be to Appear "Perfect"?
  • The Books & People section offers two new book presentations and a couple of updates
    • We added seven new quotes from Designing ther User Interface, 5th ed. to our Quotes Found for You page

SAP UX Conference Activities

Gerd Waloszek and Ulrich Kreichgauer, SAP UX, will present a short paper User-Centered Evaluation of the Responsiveness of Applications at the INTERACT 2009 conference in Uppsala, Sweden (26-28 August, 2009).

We would like to inform you of the following additions to the SAP Design Guild Website:

  • We published two new editorials:
    • Technology Connects People!
    • Living in Bubbles
  • The Books & People section offers two new "featured people," and a new review of the book:
    • Designing the User Interface (5th Ed.), by Ben Shneiderman, Chatérine Plaisant, Maxine Cohen, and Steven Jacobs
  • The UI Guidelines for CRM WebClient User Interface have been updated to version 1.6.
  • The SAP UI Standards section has been removed from the Resources; now there is only a SAP UI Guidelines section

SAP UX Conference Activities

  • Dan Rosenberg, Senior Vice President, SAP User Experience, will hold the keynote address (opening plenary session) at the HCI International 2009 conference in San Diego, CA, USA ( 19-24 July, 2009). It is titled The Industrialization of Sustainability: Future roles, responsibilities and opportunities for the HCI profession. Further SAP UX colleagues who take actively part in the conference are Janaki Kumar, Michael Arent, and Udo Arend.

We would like to inform you of the following new additions and updates to the SAP Design Guild Website:

  • We published a new story: Gesture Navigation in Contextual Menus
  • The Books & People section offers two new reviews of the books:
    • Design Thinking by Hasso Plattner, Christoph Meinel & Ulrich Weinberg
    • Handbook of Usability Testing (2nd Edition) by Dana Chisnell & Jeffrey Rubin
    (We have two more books in our review pipeline and hope to publish a review of Designing the User Interface in May)

We would like to inform you of the following new additions and updates to the SAP Design Guild Website:

  • In our Books & People section, we updated a number of pages and added four new book presentations:
    • Featured Books
    • Book List
  • In addition, we published our first book review for this year:
    • Scientific Collaboration on the Internet, edited by Olson, Zimmerman & Bos
  • Finally, after a longer break, we added two new pages with desktop motives, this time in widescreen formats:
    • Sweden 2008 - Part 1 (Diverse Locations)
    • Sweden 2008 - Part 2 (Oeland)

We also have two further books in our review pipeline: Handbook of Usability Testing (2nd Ed.), Designing the User Interface (5th ed.) (the links lead to preliminary pages)

 

SAP Design Guild Newsletter – January 2009 (No. 59, 01/27/2009)

We would like to inform you of the following new additions and updates to the SAP Design Guild Website:

  • We started the new year with an editorial:
    • E-Mail-Driven Work
  • Our UI events page has been updated with upcoming UI events for 2009:
    • UI Events
  • We updated the SAP User-Centered Design page, removed old material, and moved the prototyping article to the design tidbits:
    • SAP User-Centered Design
  • In our Books & People section, we updated a number of pages and added five new short bios as well as two new book presentations:
    • Featured UI and Design People
    • Featured Books

In addition, we cleaned up a number of areas on our Website (particularly, Goodies -> Infos & Links) and made changes and additions there. We also have already one book in our review pipeline (Scientific Collaboration on the Internet).
