What's in the Interaction Design Guide?
This Interaction Design Guide presents guidelines for SAPs Internet Application Components (IAC) covering interaction design, screen layout and text issues.
SAP Internet Application Components may be technically based on SAPGUI for HTML, templates, or flow logic. In principle, all IACs have a similar look and feel. However, where appropriate, applications based on templates, or flow logic may make use of advanced features supported by the respective programming model.

The graphical design of SAP web applications is not covered here. See the respective sections on visual design in the SAP Design Guild.
Also, the design methodology for deriving the user interface from the results of a user and task analysis is not included here. See Interaction Design Sessions and Site Visits for Analyzing Work Practice in the Design and Analysis sections of the SAP Design Guild for more information.
New: Guidelines for interface texts in Web Applications can be found in the SAP Reference Lists, a list of status icons can be found in SAP R/3 Icons, both are offered on the SAP Design Guild.
Status
The SAP Interaction Design Guide for Internet Application Components has been upgraded to the new guidelines developed by the UEC, web@ease and PDC groups.
From now on, there will be only minor corrections and additions (e.g. examples) as needed.
07.11.2002: Text guidelines and reference lists (function names, status icons) have been removed to reduce redundancy between guidelines. They can be found in the SAP Reference Lists on the SAP Design Guild.
Acknowledgements
These guidelines reflect the recent work of the Usability Engineering Center (UEC), web@ease, and Product Design Center (PDC) groups, as well as discussions with the user interface designers (UIDs). Many parts of it are based on the reworked training course Web Application Interaction Design ZDS130. The sections on texts are more or less direct adoptions from the paper Standards and Guidelines for Interface Texts in Web Applications authored by the web@ease group and developed in cooperation with members of the UEC group.
