            New Book Review: The Design Way by Harold A. Nelson and Erik Stolterman
          </title>
          <description>
            We live in a world, which, on the one hand, has been shaped by natural
            forces and according to natural laws but which, on the other hand,
            has been shaped through human activity to such a degree that, as
            the authors of The Design Way write,
&quot;
            scientists have begun to label the present epoch as the Anthropocene
            era.
&quot;
            They explain that
&quot;
            as human beings, we continuously create things that help reshape
            the reality and essence of the world as we know it. When we create
            new things ... we engage in design.
&quot;
            The authors, however, bemoan the fact that
&quot;
            design has remained surprisingly invisible and unrecognized in the
            world at large.
&quot;
            They point out that their book, The Design Way, is an attempt to
            change this, making the case for design as its own tradition by
&quot;
            delivering what has been missing, namely
&quot;
            writing a book about the philosophy of design
&quot;
            and
&quot;
            formulating its fundamental core of ideas.

            New Design Tidbit: Password Usability: To Protect or Prohibit?
          </title>
          <description>
            We are required to use an increasing number of user names, passwords
            and PINs in our daily lives. We use them for logging on to computers
            and networks, specific applications and websites, bank cards, mobile
            phones and even entry door systems. In this article, Rikke Friis
            Dam from IDF explains what you should take into account when designing
            password input forms.

          <description>
            How can you best provide a lot of information without overloading
            the user? One possible answer to this question is Progressive disclosure.
            In her article, Rikke Friis Dam not only explains this technique
            from the very beginnings of graphical users interfaces, she also
            points out that mobile has breathed new life into it.

            New Design Tidbit: User Experience and Experience Design Software
            Design
          </title>
          <description>
            The extensive challenge designers and vendors of interactive products
            face is that
&quot;
            Experience or User Experience
&quot;
            is not about good industrial design, multi-touch, or fancy interfaces.
            It is about transcending the material. It is about creating an experience
            through a device
&quot;
            , states Marc Hassenzahl in his book on
&quot;
            User Experience and Experience Design
&quot;
            in the Interaction Design Foundation's (IDF) encyclopedia. Rikke
            Friis Dam's article is a condensed version of some of Marc's points
            – focusing on his simple conceptual model of Why, What, and How as
            a starting point for the Experience Designer.

            New Book Review: Net Smart by Howard Rheingold
          </title>
          <description>
            When our author decided to review Howard Rheingold's book Net Smart:
            How to Thrive Online and asked for a review copy, he did not think
            all that much about the consequences. However, as soon as he started
            reading, doubts arose in his mind about whether he was the right
            person for the job. After all, he had closed his Facebook account
            after a very short time - having never really used it - he have never
            twittered, and he do not use a smart phone. All in all, he lacks
            experience in the fundamental ingredients of today's online life.
            He pondered for a while and, having promised to write a review, finally
            came to the conclusion that - despite these obvious and serious gaps
            - there were still enough parallels between Rheingold's online life
            and his to allow him to understand the issues Rheingold discusses.
            So here comes the review.
